Legal Metrology is the branch of metrology concerned with the regulation of measurement, units of measurement, measuring instruments, and measuring methods — governed in India by the Legal Metrology Act, 2009 (Central Act 1 of 2010). The Legal Metrology Department of Kerala operates under the state government and enforces standards of weights and measures to protect consumers, ensure fair trade, and maintain accuracy in commercial transactions. An Inspector of Legal Metrology is a frontline enforcement officer who conducts verification, inspection, and stamping of weighing and measuring instruments across markets, industries, and commercial establishments.

Candidates born between 02 Jan 1989 and 01 Jan 2007 (both dates inclusive) are eligible. Standard age relaxation applies for SC/ST and OBC candidates as per Kerala PSC norms.
Science Graduate
Graduation in Science with Physics as one of the subjects, conferred or recognised by any University in Kerala.
B.Tech Degree
B.Tech awarded or recognised by any University in Kerala. Any engineering specialisation is accepted.
Diploma + Experience
- Diploma in Engineering (3-year regular course)
- Plus 3 years professional experience in Central/State Govt, PSU, or registered Private Sector
- Experience in Legal Metrology Dept counts as professional experience
Malayalam Proficiency
Candidates must be able to speak, read, and write Malayalam. The job involves area-specific inspections and documentation in Malayalam.
Indian Citizen
Must be an Indian citizen and meet standard Kerala PSC residency and character requirements as specified in the Gazette Notification.
